Privacy Policy
MeMe Games ("we", "us") makes BeatBound, a rhythm game for PC, Mac, iPhone, iPad and Android. This policy explains what information we process when you play the game and when you visit this website, why we process it, and the choices you have.
Effective date: October 26, 2026 · Controller: MeMe Games · Contact: contact@memegames.dev
1. Information we process and why
| Feature | Information | Purpose |
|---|---|---|
| Offline play | Nickname, settings, play records, ranks, unlocked items. Stored only on your device. | Save your progress and settings |
| Online sign-in | An anonymous device-based identifier and Product User ID created by Epic Online Services, your device model | Identify players for ranked play, ghosts and versus matches, without an account or password |
| Ranked play and score checks | Song, difficulty, mode, score, hits, progress, the timing of your inputs, your position on the board during the song, ladder points, rating, win and loss records | Verify scores against cheating, rank players, match you with opponents and other players' recorded runs (ghosts) |
| Live versus matches | Product User ID, a generated name (such as PLAYER-1A2B), ladder points, rating, equipped character and in-match play data, network information needed to connect (such as IP address) | Connect you with an opponent and keep the match in sync |
| Ads (mobile only) | Advertising identifier (if you allow it), IP address, device and app information, ad views and clicks | Show ads, measure them and prevent ad fraud |
| Remove-ads purchase (mobile only) | Purchase status and order information from the App Store or Google Play | Turn off ads and restore your purchase on reinstall |
| Server security | IP address, request time, requested address, app version information in web requests | Prevent abuse, limit request rates, troubleshoot |
| Inquiries | Your email address and anything you include in your message | Answer your inquiry |
Your nickname stays on your device. It is not sent to our server or shown to other players.
2. Online sign-in
Online features start only when you first open ranked or versus play. The game then signs in to Epic Online Services (EOS) with a device-based identifier. You do not create an account, and we never ask for an email address, password or real name. The game passes a sign-in token from EOS to our server (api.memegames.dev), which checks it with Epic and recognizes you by your Product User ID.
3. Advertising (mobile only)
The iPhone, iPad and Android versions show a full-screen ad after every few songs. Ads are served through Unity LevelPlay, a service of Unity Technologies, with the Unity Ads network. These services may collect the information listed in section 1 under their own privacy policies, and may use it for personalized ads where the law and your choices allow.
- On iPhone and iPad, the advertising identifier is used only if you allow tracking when the system asks. You can change this at any time in Settings, then Privacy & Security, then Tracking.
- On Android, you can reset or delete your advertising ID, or opt out of personalized ads, in your device settings.
- Buying "Remove Ads" turns off ads in the game. Apple or Google handles the payment, and we never receive your payment card details.
The PC and Mac versions have no ads.
4. Storage and retention
Settings, your nickname and offline records are stored on your device until you delete the game or its data.
On our server we keep:
- Your position-by-time recording of a song for one day, unless it becomes a ghost or belongs to a match still in progress.
- Input timing of runs that fail the score check for seven days.
- Scores, verified input timing, ghosts, ladder and rating records for as long as the online service runs, or until you ask us to delete them. Ghosts are replaced as newer runs come in.
- Backup copies of the server database for up to 30 days.
- Web request logs only as long as needed for security and troubleshooting.
We keep emails you send us only as long as needed to handle your request, unless the law requires us to keep them longer. When information is no longer needed, we delete electronic files so they cannot be restored.
5. Service providers and other players
We use the following providers. Each processes information under its own privacy policy.
- Epic Games, Inc. (Epic Online Services): anonymous sign-in, versus lobbies and P2P connections
- Oracle Corporation (Oracle Cloud): hosting our game server
- Cloudflare, Inc. (R2 storage): backups of the server database
- Unity Technologies: the game engine, in-app purchase handling and, on mobile, LevelPlay and Unity Ads. The Unity engine may also send basic, anonymous device statistics (such as hardware and operating system) to Unity.
- Apple Inc. and Google LLC: app stores, in-app purchases and payments
- GitHub, Inc.: hosting this website
Other players see your runs as ghosts with a random generated name and character, a short code derived from your Product User ID, and your ladder points. Leaderboards show only that short code. In a live versus match your opponent receives your Product User ID, generated name, ladder points, rating, equipped character and in-match play. Depending on how players are connected, technical information such as your IP address may be visible to the relay service or to your opponent.
We do not sell your personal information. Apart from the ad services described in section 3, we do not share it for advertising.

6. Website
This website is served by GitHub Pages. It has no ads, no analytics scripts and no tracking cookies. GitHub may process access information such as IP addresses to provide and secure its hosting service.
7. Your rights and choices
You can ask us to access, correct, delete or export your information, or to restrict or object to processing. Send requests to contact@memegames.dev. To help us find your records, include the platform you play on, roughly when you played ranked or versus, and, if you can, your ladder rank or the songs you played. We may ask for more information to confirm the request comes from you.
We reply without undue delay and within the time required by applicable law (for example, one month under the GDPR, or 10 days under Korea's Personal Information Protection Act).
You can play without any online features: if you never open ranked or versus play, the game does not sign in to EOS or contact our server. Deleting the game and its data removes everything stored on your device. On mobile you can also limit ad tracking as described in section 3.
8. International users
8.1 Transfers outside your country
MeMe Games is based in the Republic of Korea. Our providers process information on servers in Korea, the United States and other countries. Information is sent to them over the network when you use the related feature.
| Recipient | Country | Information | Purpose | Retention |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Epic Games, Inc. | United States and other EOS regions | Device-based identifier, Product User ID, device model, versus play data in transit, network information | Sign-in, versus matches | As set out in Epic's policy |
| Oracle Corporation | Oracle Cloud region of our server | Product User ID, runs, ghosts, ladder and rating records, request logs | Game server hosting | As set out in section 4 |
| Cloudflare, Inc. | United States and other regions | Database backups | Backups | Up to 30 days |
| Unity Technologies | United States and other regions | Advertising identifier, IP address, device and ad information (mobile), purchase status, device statistics | Ads, purchases, engine statistics | As set out in Unity's policies |

Where required, these transfers are protected by safeguards offered by the providers, such as the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses. You can refuse a transfer by not using the related feature or by contacting us, but online play, ads-supported play or purchases may then be unavailable.
8.2 European Economic Area, United Kingdom and Switzerland
Under the GDPR and UK GDPR, MeMe Games is the controller of your information. We rely on these legal bases:
- Performance of a contract: online sign-in, ranked play, ghosts, versus matches, the remove-ads purchase
- Consent: personalized ads and the use of your advertising identifier. You can withdraw consent at any time in your device settings.
- Legitimate interests: score checks against cheating, security and abuse prevention, non-personalized ads that fund the free mobile version, website hosting. You can object at any time.
- Legal obligation: when the law requires us to keep or disclose information
You also have the right to data portability and the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority. Score checks are automated, but they only decide whether a run counts for ranking; they have no legal or similarly significant effect on you, and you can contact us if you think a run was rejected by mistake.
8.3 California and other U.S. states
We do not sell personal information. Ad services on mobile may receive identifiers that count as "sharing" for cross-context behavioral advertising; you can opt out through your device's ad tracking settings described in section 3. We do not use sensitive personal information to infer characteristics about you. In the past 12 months we collected these categories: identifiers (device-based IDs, advertising identifiers, IP addresses) and internet or other network activity (gameplay data, ad interactions, request logs). You can ask to know, correct or delete your information, directly or through an authorized agent. We will not discriminate against you for exercising these rights.
8.4 Republic of Korea
Privacy officer: MeMe Games, contact@memegames.dev. For help with a privacy violation, you can also contact the Personal Information Infringement Report Center (privacy.kisa.or.kr, 118) or the Personal Information Dispute Mediation Committee (www.kopico.go.kr, 1833-6972).
9. Children
The game is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from them. Where a higher age applies (for example under 14 in Korea, or under 16 in some EEA countries), children below that age should use online features only with the consent of a parent or guardian. If you believe a child has given us information without that consent, contact us and we will delete it.
10. Security
We collect only what the game needs. Traffic to our server is encrypted (HTTPS), server sessions expire after 12 hours, and access to the server and its backups is restricted. No method of transmission is completely secure, but we work to protect your information.
11. Changes to this policy
We update this policy when the game or the law changes and show the new effective date at the top. For significant changes, we will also give notice in the game or on this website.
12. Languages and contact
This policy is written in English and translated into other languages. If a translation differs from the English version, the English version prevails unless local law requires otherwise.
